CSA Episode 206 - OMG Fox News!

Ever been to heaven? Well its not Iowa in January. But that's where Tim Pawlenty would be now if he hadn't dropped out of the Republican primary too soon. Tim, Kim, FOX and facts. Some of them are real. Some are unreal, but its all true in CSA Episode 206! You'll get more than facts, here!

CSA Episode 205 - What would you do for $254 M?

Tonight the boys are occupied with Jon Stewarts story about 7.7 trillion dollars given to pigs like Skank Of America and Shittybank. CSA Episode 199 - The night of tough questions...

Tonight's episode begins with Pat Robertson, Alzheimer Disease and dating, a hat trick of issues if ever we saw one. The boys were on a roll so they next tackled the question of when it is right to take someone's DNA sample. After figuring that one out, next up was a report about how people are now faking, no not orgasms, but cell phone calls in order to not have to interact with someone. This moves into cell phone ethics. After this dizzying display of opinionating, they go one step further and talk about IKEA trying out the idea of "Manland" where guys can hang out while their wives shop. Maqz suggests giving away free hot dogs there along with having a 60 inch big screen and comfy chairs.

Maqz gets a real good laugh about this and continues to chortle through the whole show which ends up talking about Steve Jobs and his resignation as Apple CEO. Other topics include earthquakes and nuclear power plants, and also bugs...

CSA Episode 182: "Maqz's Show - Science and Happy Endings..."

Maqz takes the lead tonight and runs with the show for a while with T Fab and Denali in tow. He starts with a study about domestic vs. wild animals and which may be smarter. Next up was a report on climate change and glacial melt and only CSA would make a connection to George Carlin. Another science topic is the use of biodegradable nano structures to treat infections. After some lively discuss, we take a turn to the bizarre and discuss some man who wants to self secede from the country because the real Constitution, the one hidden by Abraham Lincoln, says he can. Yes folks, another great political leader. Next Maqz continues the internet lunacy with a political protest in Burma, where woman's panties are tossed out at the leaders, something first started during Bruce Springsteen shows! T Fab P next introduces the 2011 Weird names contest as propped by Freakonomics on their blog. Maqz finishes up with a couple of weirdly worded signs and we are out!

Sunday, April 24, 2011

CSA Episode 181: "Once again, the hypocracy is overwhelming..."

We begin with a few updates; first an update about a Blue Canary Cream Ale failure, a freakonomics update about teachers cheating because they have an incentive - students doing well on standardized tests. Then there was a comment on the blog that posted about Snopes calling a story we did that was an internet hoax. Thanks to anonymous for pointing that out to us. Then on to Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin, who not only has hired his aide's mistress for a secretarial job, but now it is revealed that he hired the son of one of his biggest supporters, totally unqualified, for a high paying government position. Forget about the fact that he doesn't have a college degree but does have 2 drunk driving convictions. But at least Gov. Walker is getting rid of those pesky unions and giving the corporations of the Koch brothers giant tax breaks. That man is an idiot. Then the boys start to talk finance and the GOP plan to cut Medicaid and hurt the poor and disabled in this country. Yea team. This leads to the end of the show, on a lighter note. Obama using Facebook as part of his reelection campaign, a giant turtle captured and treated, a teenager who was robbing a house and gt punched in the mouth had his mother go to the home to retrieve them. Thank the internet for people like this, otherwise we would never smile!

CSA Episode 180 "Just how stupid do they think we are..."

Maqz spends some time trying to figure out who he is and then the boys jump right into some updates. First T Fab talks about how when eBooks are produced, the writers are getting less money for royalties but the publishers, because of less overhead, make more money per copy. Maqz then does a personal story about what he feels is a great song, the TV theme song for "The Nanny." He particularly likes the language of the lyrics. T Fab P then brings up the new words being included in the New Oxford Dictionary for this year. This includes initialisms that are popularized by internet users. They also include some phrases included too along with a grapic for love and something close to the Fabulous Penguin's heart, an adjective "Fabless"that doesn't refer to fabulous but rather fabrication process. T Fab then moves onto some themes for the show, like "dumb, not so dumb", 5 stories that reflect the idea of just how stupid some people think we are. Some are political, some intellectual rights but all are interesting.

CSA: The Shane Ryan Interview Part 1

Shane Ryan is the writer of the blog "Seth Curry Saves Duke" which is the new sponsor of our podcast. In this episode Maqz and T Fab P put him through his paces with a hard hitting interview. Well not really hard hitting, just sort of light taps about the head and body. He covers up well and gets through the first 30 minutes with only slight bruising. We talk about the blog, Duke basketball and the recent NCAA Tournament, writing in general, the death of newspapers, some baseball and NY Yankees and still have a bunch more in the can to be released next week. Give us a listen, this is an enjoyable half hour.

Walker of Wisconsin while pleading that the state is bankrupt, hires a mistress of a colleague for a government job, a new internet address for .xxx, a letter from Arkansas newspaper that claims that there is an especially hot March there because of the extra sunlight due to Daylight Savings Time, and the Taco Bell assault due to the price hike of 30 cents on the beefy burrito. CSA Episode 176 "Goons, hired goons..."

A more serious podcast tonight as Maqz and T Fab P begin by looking at what is happening in Libya right now. It is a rentier state, which means that over 97% of its economy coming from the oil industry and their leader has hired people to come in and quell the protesters. Maqz then talks aout this is different from Egypt where the army, with little to do before this, is involved in its manufacturing jobs so those protesting there are their customer. This leads to a discussion about democracy and things in the US's best interests. This discussion moves onto our own democracy, and all the issues now related to the problems in Wisconsin including the Koch brothers who donated 50 million dollars to political campaigns. Maqz and T Fab P then give some opinions about unions and estate taxes and the machine called Fox News and the GOP.

In tonights podcast jambouriee, the boys and Manhattan Man touch on a wide variety of topics. He brings up several examples including "family jewels," He also brings up dysphemisms, with their more negative bend. T Fab P then mentions a list of common misconceptions that he found and the group spends some time denying that they believed that misconception or that one. They chat about Christopher Columbus, the pilgrims and their descendents, George Washington's teeth, the Declaration of Independence, the Great Wall of China, and finally Maqz does an ode to his favorite predictor of the future, no, not Denali, but Tesla. CSA Chronicles Episode 045 "A Vagina Monologue"

The Vagina Monologues is made up of a varying number of monologues read by a varying number of women (initially, Eve Ensler performed every monologue herself, with subsequent performances featuring three actresses, and more recent versions featuring a different actress for every role). Every monologue somehow relates to the vagina, be it through sex, love, rape, menstruation, mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the variety of names for the vagina, or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality. Every year a new monologue is added to highlight a current issue affecting women around the world. Every V-Day thousands of local benefit productions are staged to raise funds for local groups, shelters, crisis centers working to end violence against women. Syracuse University performs a benefit production. Becca, Manhattan Man's daughter is in it for the second year in a row and CSA is proud to present to you, her monologue, "The Angry Vagina"

Sunday, February 6, 2011

CSA Episode 172 "Just too many guns..."

Sometimes podcasts aren't all that funny. Sometimes we get onto a serious topic and have a good discussion about it. This is one of those times. We started off as we normally do, Manhattan Man joining us in the booth, doing a bit of an update about predictions, a carry over from our previous show. Well, after that the first topic was about guns and this took up the whole rest of the show. It happens sometimes, it really does, so bear with us on this serious talk about a serious topic.

CSA Episode 169 "Internet News in Review..."

On this edition of CSA, the boys continue their internet travels across all that it has to offer. As they have done in the past, they start with the Beloit College Mindset list, the things that the entering freshman class have always known or not known like who John McEnroe is or what Barney refers to.They have beanie babies and dead celebrities and colorful lapel ribbons. Then they move onto news from the internet including a man released from a Texas prison after 30 years of imprisonment due to DNA evidence which leads to discussion of the death penalty. Next up politics and the Democrats for Palin movement, who want her nominated because she cannot win the presidency. The sort of thing that would make Tricky Dicky or the Evil Genius Karl Rove just giddy if it wasn't against their own party. Up next, an article from Newsweek about what the internet has killed, including Blockbuster Video and the Yellow Pages. Finally the boys tout their next two shows - a review of their 2010 predictions and predicting things to come in 2011 with the very best in his field, Denali, great mystic of the show.

CSA Episode 168 - "Different show, same day..."

So Maqz and T Fab P had so much to talk about, they just kept at it and did a second show on this night. They began (or continued with...) some discussion about a blog post T Fab P did on things bugging him which included weird tattoos and talking heads on the news always referring to global warming whenever there is a blizzard. This leads to the boys talking about climate change and the effects that even a slight warming can cause. Then Maqz goes off on evil Dick Cheney and the out of control of gas prices. T Fab P then gets back to his comparison list of how things are different in the world in 2010 as opposed to 2000. Maqz ends it all with a few internet oddities – a woman posing as a gynecologist and a woman who threatened a shop keeper with MRSA. As always a fun time for all!

CSA Episode 167 - So when do I get my Christmas present?

On tonights episode, the last recorded in 2010, the boys take a little trip through the internet as they do each week. First there are some updates - Blue Canary Batch #3 is in the bottle and referencing some errors in Virginia history books, we discuss all the errors that were found in a review of thew history books used in the curriculum there. Then onto Amazon's new service soon to start called "Gift Alert" where you can exchange gifts before you get them. Of course. Maqz only had 16 cents for T Fab P's Christmas present so he is still waiting for it to arrive. This discussion gets into how the internet has changed things and the way we do it. This induces a Gary Larsen reference to something he wrote 10 years ago about not posting his comics on the internet. Then on a serious note, Maqz brings up an update regarding WikiLeaks and what he has been reading about it and the economic impact on donations to them. There also is some discussion about the ethics behind what we know and say about the whole issue.

Our Podcast is best enjoyed while drinking Montazuma Wines - We recommend the Cranberry Bog!
