CSA Episode 166 - "A Few Stories as the Year Ends..."

On tonight's episode, the last one for 2010, Maqz and T Fab P touch on a variety of subjects. Starting with an update about super beers, tactical nuclear penguin is challenged by three newer brews in Europe -The End of History, Start the Future, and Sink the Bismark. They also discuss why there are no American super beers - US regulations, and the time and money being too much. They then ask the most basic question, is it beer? Next up they move to Wikileaks, is it about power and the fact that they have been somewhat uncomfortable with Assange. Next is a Facebook story or two - a school committee attempts to regulate social media use by its teachers and then a Facebook racist rant by kids football coach and discussion as to whether he should be fired? We do a segment of "What's buggin Maqz as he relates a story about a football player who dropped a pass and then blamed God in his tweet. We didn't even know God was on Twitter. Wonder what his name is there Almighty_being? Be-all_and_end_all? The final three stories of the year are about a new iPhone app that is very scary and a Scandinavian author who came out very strongly about pirating material off the internet until her 10 year old pointed out she stole MP3's for her iPod, and the recent discovery through DNA testing that Ozzie Osborne has Neanderthal genes. Who would have guessed that huh?

CSA The Deep End - Episode 13 - WikiLeaks

It has been all over the news for the last few weeks and it seems like everyone has an opinion about this topic. Well, Maqz and T Fab P are no different. They have an opinion too and they spend this episode of The Deep End discussing it.

CSA The Deep End-Episode 12: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

In a bit of a break from the regular Deep End, tonight Maqz and T Fab P invite Denali into the booth to discuss one of those age old conversation starters - If you could invite anyone to a dinner, what three people would you invite. This leads to a rollicking discussion about politics and philosophy and sports and sexism and you get the idea. Sit back and hold on for quite a ride...

CSA Episode 165 - "It's unbelievable to me"

In a tip of the cap to Scott of Total Talk Nonsense, tonight the boys go at a few things that they just find unbelievable - Maqz' three Thanksgiving dinners, John Boehner's tobacco check give away on the floor of the house in 1995, the study that found emergency room use goes up when the weather gets colder...and when the weather gets warmer, the "not a jealous boyfriend" state representative with a gun in his pocket, the professor caught using a text book practice test, who accuses his students of cheating because they studied from the practice test, Maqz trying to give T Fab P a cold through the interweb tubes, the TSA claim that they want inconsistency in their airport security, and end with a Maqz rant, yelling at "The Clown" for being a multi-billion dollar company trying to make him feel guilty and forcing him to donate a dollar after they have sold like a trillion hamburgers. Well, the whole thing is a mouthful and the boys enjoyed doing it for you. And again thanks to Scott of Total Talk Nonsense for the inspiration for the title...

CSA Episode 164 - "The CSA Podcast without a name..."

In this "bonus" episode of CSA, Maqz starts off giving T Fab P a quiz about what the people of the United States "know" and both are shocked, shocked at the numbers. This includes the oil spill, inflation, unemployment, the deficit, the new Speaker of the House, and defense spending. This moves to discussion of Senator Kyl being a dick about National Security. Next up is the creation of anti-matter at CERN and storage. Then it is onto the TSA and all the abuses that are being reported and the boys give it their usual best in discussing the merits and failures of this as a rights issue. Then they have a BIG ending of light humorous and funny internet stories.

CSA Episode 163 - CSA Episode 163 "A short lesson in Pareidolia"

The boys start off with a few reflections on the anniversary of JFK's assissination which leads to some discussion about getting older. Maqz then talks about a list of things that he knows but that a lot of other people don't know. One thing they both know is that Sarah Palin is at it again! Then the discussion moves on to a couple orf comments made by a listener in an email. The first is on Pareidolia, the psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Maqz and T Fab P refer to this as "Jesus, Cat Stevens or Evan." Here is the picture she sent. Who do you see?

Then the listener made a comment about misused language and the boys are taken down a peg. Well folks, that's it, enjoy the podcast!

CSA Episode 160 - "Maqz's thoughts and Penguin's poo..."

So this episode is a real treat. Maqz and the Penguin have been working on improving their sound quality and so they have been on the internet with each other more frequently this last week. When that happens, shows almost invariably happen which is what happened here. It was the night before election day, they got to talking about this and that and a show was born. First they talk about the Stewart/Colbert Rally for Sanity and/or Fear. Then they move onto some books being banned, one for a poor reason and one for a good reason. Then T Fab P brings up a list of crazy things that happened during this most recent election cycle. Finally Maqz pays tribute to Penguin Droppings. No, not the famous blog by T Fab P but really, a study about penguin shit. Well, at least the boys keep the topics well rounded. The image that Maqz is talking about is posted right here!

Listen to #160 for the Penguin Poo Story!

CSA Episode 159 - "It's worth pointing this stuff out..."

As Election Day dawns upon us Maqz and T Fab P continue to hammer home the point that the GOP is the party of "Do as we say, not as we do" as the hypocrisy report continues from last week. On this day, the boys hope you exercised your right as an American and voted for the people who you feel will represent you. Maqz and T Fab P reserve the right to say "We told you so..." at a later date.

CSA Incandescent Gas - On TV

Have you ever wondered what it is like when Maqz and T Fab P are just chatting. Well if you were a fly on the wall, you would quickly find out they sound just like it's one of their shows except a bit wilder, a little more irreverent and a bit more on the edge. So this episode marks the beginning of a new series for the boys, sort of like CSA Raw. Little editing, it just shows the rambling style of their conversations when the boys are not seat belted in. Give it a listen, we hope you enjoy it...

CSA Episode 158 "The Hypocrisy Show"

Don't get them started...
Don't ask them about hypocrisy in the GOP...Oh well you did, didn't you. So now they're going to give you 30 minutes of it. First they talk about all those GOP'ers who slam the Obama stimulus plan and say stop government spending, then write secret little letters to government agencies begging for stimulus cash for their pet projects. That takes a while. Eventually they go into taxpayers who do the same thing - decry government spending and then end up taking money gleefully from the government. After all this, they do a few weird internet stories and they are done.

CSA Episode 157: "Our Show of Lists..."

So Maqz and T Fab P were in a new list state of mind. So you get to hear about the lists they came across. Want to know what the most overpriced products are? Maqz and T Fab P will tell you. Want to know the five food products that rebranded to increase their saleability? Maqz and T Fab P will tell you. Want to know what type of people want to ban books at the public library? Maqz and T Fab P will tell you. Want to know a list of future events according to a radical pessimist? Maqz and T Fab P will tell you. They were in such a sharing mood!

CSA Episode 156 "Updates, we got updates..."

In this episode it is just Maqz and T Fab P being Maqz and T Fab P. They are just pointing out the idiocy of the world, one idiot at a time. They begin with a couple of updates about previously mentioned stories - the Chilean mine, strongest beer in the world, and the Segway company owner death. This leads to a discussion about maybe the worst theme music for a show, not used. Be ready for a surprise. Next up, the boys get into a freedom of speech issue, and also a privacy issue regarding photographs. And one final note. listen to the end for a second surprise!

CSA Episode 155 "Denali Gears..."

So what does this mean. Well it had been a while since Denali had appeared with Maqz and T Fab P so they kind of let him control things by opening the show. After a funny story about a gay softball league (who would have thought they would bring that up???) The boys talk about Air Out My Shorts Podcast where Preston Buttons and the Word Whore read the tandem story T Fab P created with the help of nine friends, and provided their witty commentary about. Maqz is all upset because the Word Whore mistook his bad Mickey Spillane writing to be something a woman would write but everyone had a good laugh about it. The topic swings around for a while after that to Christine O'Donnell and masturbation, 4 Chan and the MPAA and finally comes to c close with a little "Inventor's Quiz" Lots of laughs and fun for all. Where does Denali Gears come in? You figure it out...

CSA Episode - The Yonni Episode

This is actually episode #154, for those keeping score at home (and we all know how painful that can be...) We at CSA Podcast, the podcast of record want to salute a true hero, Yonni Barrios, one of the trapped Chilean coal miners who is providing medical help to all the other miners trapped with him. So extraordinary the feat that his wife, Marta Salinas, in a show of support, has been keeping a vigil outside the mine entrance. Well we guess Yonni is not too anxious to exit the mine when they are all eventually rescued. So while you await rescue, we dedicate this to you Yonni, a real hero...

So, even though it is the end of the summer, there is a lot going on politically and Maqz and T Fab P cannot resist a comment or two. We got beckapolloza, we got Vitter, we got Murdoch, we got Fox News, we got all that and more. We got irony vs. poetic justice, we got it all...

CSA Episode 152 - "Yes, bad things can happen because of the technology..."

On this episode of the podcast, Maqz and T Fab P talk a bit about how things on the internet and technology has been causing problems for people. Whether it is Sharron Angle trying to hide from some crazy ideas she has posted on her internet page (privatize Social Security and do away with off shore drilling regulations and the Department of Education), of hikers in Grand Canyon National Park using cell phones to ask if the rangers if they can get some snacks delivered, there is a lot of crazy stuff out there. They tell you about it, you decide...

CSA The Deep End: Episode 10: TV Show's Theme Music

So, Maqz wrote a blog recently about the New Hawaii 5-0 and the fact that they changed and updated the theme song. This got us talking about the classic opening theme songs to a lot of shows so they decided to do a show about them. Give it a listen and tell us if you think the ones we mentioned are the classics and if we missed any of your favorites. If we get enough responses, perhaps we will do a second show where we identify some listener favorites...

CSA Episode 150 - "Ta-Da..."

Never thought we'd get to 150 episodes, did you?

Anyway, Maqz and T Fab P were supposed to do a live podcast from the lake in Massachusetts but they just never got around to it. They had so much stuff to talk about that by time they got to Wednesday they had enough for not one show (149) but a second one (#150!). No fanfare, no bells and whistles, just the stuff that has made them famous and a pair of internet icons...well, a pair of something. So give #150 a listen and consider it to be a gift to the internet masses!!!

They end the show with a reminder of voting for them on podcast alley and encouraging people to write to them at www.csapodcast@gmail.com

CSA Episode 147 - "Elephants, bison and mosquitoes, oh my!"

There is antibiotics in food and patients, the town of Shitterton, in England, politicians who suck, coaches who suck, crazy elephants, tool using crows, crazy bison charging morists (moron tourists), a fisherman/electrician who tries to shock fish while in an aluminum boat, lasers shooting down planes and mosquitoes, and finally worthless study grants closes out the show.

CSA Episode 146 - "Take it or leave it!"

On this episode of the podcast Maqz and T Fab P are joined by Denali as they have a discussion about bad language. First they talk about the FCC ruling by the courts regarding some of the words you cannot say on TV. Then, they move to the obscenity laws and a little town in Nebraska with a naked mannequin and community standards. From here they skip over to government mandates about kids diets and schools. And as if this wasn't enought about government T Fab P brings up Al Frankin's election in Minnesota and study results of the election issues there. So a bit of this and that and they end up in politics again. Those boys!

CSA Episode 145 - "That's some weird science!"

On this episode of the Countless Screaming Argonauts Podcast, we introduce Maqz Nye, the Science Guy, who takes us on a whirlwind tour of his theory about some science principle. We invite Joshua into the booth because we figure he is the only one who could understand all the blabbering about particles and waves and Einstein. Finally we discover we would have been better off having Bill Cosby joining us! After science, we move from showing everyone just how smart we are to showing just how dumb the population is with the results of a history and geography poll. Who did America declaire their independence from and where are some of the states in the US. To bring this train to a stop, Maqz gives us the full fictional names for some famous fictional people. Can you tell us the name of "the man behind the curtain". What about the man in the yellow hat, or the Monopoly cop., or the Skipper or the Professor? Listen to the show and find out!

CSA Episode 144 - "Turnabout is fair play..."

On this episode of the CSA Podcast, Manhattan Man starts the party off when he poses a question to Maqz and T Fab P about former NFL player, Lawrence Taylor. It starts with a discussion of the recent legal issues he has but then moves quickly to discussions about considering taking him out of the Hall of Fame and finally to issues of role models for our children. T Fab P then brings up questions about the newly proposed NYS law that will require DNA samples from ALL people who are found guilty of a crime, even misdemeanors, and all hell breaks loose for a while. The show grinds to a halt with a "One to Dumb" story and then they call it a night. Special thanks to Manhattan Man for being the fearless leader of the troupe tonight!

CSA Episode 143 - Science will clear up the confusion...

Tonight the boys start off in a state of confusion but Maqz the Scientist comes to the rescue to get us back on track. Maqz has a poll from Scientific America (and we know how painful that can be) and starts a discussion about the probability of 12 things happening in the next 40 years. Unfortunately the Penguin and Dnali, the hand picked guest for this type of prediction show, are a little less that totally cooperative and the adolescent humor abounds. However, Maqz strives on and keeps everyone on task until the end. So exhausted from all this science consideration, the last few minutes take a turn to the entertainment field as they quickly talk about George Carlin, William Shakespear and Hamlet by Dr. Who. The proverbial jaunt in the park is you ask us...

CSA Episode 142 - "You call this the high road?"

Okay, yes, CSA, the Podcast of Record has its reputation to keep up. We live by one of our mottos, direct from the lips of Manhattan Man, "We take the high road!" Unfortunately, sometimes there are dips in the road (if you know what I mean) and some of our banter is immature and childish and bordering on shock-jock levels. No, this is not one of those times. Thats our story and we're sticking with it. Ok, we confess, on this episode the boiys, with Manhattan Man in attendance get out there on the childish express. Things start off fine with a quick upodate about the "nuclear option" to stop the Gulf Oil leak. As Manhattan Man says "Do we clean the duck or kill the ducks?" Then we take a turn off the highh road as T Fab P inquires about Manhattan Man's junk and all hell breaks loose with the nicknames and snide comments. By time order is restored, our reputation has been spoiled. Well, maybe thats a bit harsh, you decide. The talk swing to religion and tolerance and weird religious goings on, the to the irony of a tornado warning at an Oz-travaganza Movie festival, and a few weird facts by Maqz. The show end abruptly but I'll let you in on a little secret. We put a few out-takes and such after the closing bumper. If you take the time to read this, you now know our little present to you our faithful listeners!

Enjoy listening to the train fly off the High Road tracks...

CSA Episode 141 - From the office of silly internet things...

On this episode of Countless Screaming Argonauts, Maqz is in a silly mood and so brings a bunch of student school papers to the show, creative history writing at the hands of a smart but bored student. Look below on the website to see just what he is talking about. After this school lesson, T Fab P brings up a man who paid over $150,000 to a psychic. Hey for that kind of cash, CSA will tell you whatever you want to know. Next up, a few minutes of "Jesus , Cat Stevens or Evan?" and then a few more internet oddities. A silly show for sure, but one that will get you to chuckle out loud

The Deep End Episode 7 – A few minutes with Mark Twain

In the news this week is an item that Mark Twain’s autobiography is being readied for publication by the University of California at Berkley. Why the unusual interest you ask? Well Twain stipulated that it not be published for 100 years. Was he concerned for his friends? Did he plan a scathing tirade about his contemporaries or the politics of the time? Or was he just being a shrewd writer, knowing the delay would increase interest in the tome. Well tonight you find out as special guest Mark Twain appears on the show to discuss his life, his autobiography, books and journalism with Maqz and the Fabulous Penguin. Listen to his stories presented here and maybe learn a few things about this American Gem that you didn’t know before. So sit back in your easy chair, light up that great cigar you have been saving, perhaps open up a bottle of wine (CSA Podcasts are best enjoyed with a wine from Montezuma’s Winery!) and be ready to be entertained. Mr. Twain has appeared before, as recently as a couple of weeks ago in the FutureVaganza, but this is all Mark Twain, all the time. Enjoy it, we certainly did…

The Deep End – Episode 6 – 28 minutes going deeper into politics

On this episode of the Deep End, Maqz and T Fab P go all political on you with a look at some of the things happening around the government. There are looks at 3 different senate races for three reasons, Democratic Rep. Joe Sestak , Rand Paul, Libertarian and Blumenthal, the ex-veteran. Each is presenting major problems for their parties and no end of the merriment is in sight. Maqz then gets into the issue of the drone plane attacks in Afghanistan and just what it could mean and the boys spend quite a while examining this issue. Finally on a lighter note, they finish up with a few minutes examining the new Miss America. No, not that way! They are talking about the reactions by the right wing conservatives to the fact that she is a Muslim (yes, even though she was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. Some things just never change…

CSA Episode 140 - "Weird, weirder, weirdest..."

On this episode of CSA we begin with a news quiz as T Fab P asks Maqz about bizarre news stories of the week. Then T Fab P turns on the old bullshit detector on a couple of news stories, first a mayoral candidate who turned in rolling papers and a story about Qantas Airlines reusing plastic utensils as a way of going green. Next up is a contrast of action of Gulf State Governors and perhaps a reason why they react the way they do. Then Maqz talks about full body scans that are supposed to be destroyed to protect privacy that are showing up with people trying to get one autographed. Finally Maqz talks about a woman in Britain with holes in her head. ON PURPOSE! T Fab P talks about Boobies! Yes, one weird story after another.

Give us a listen, 140 will make you giggle.

Episode 139 - "A younger voice of reason..."

On this episode of the Countless Screaming Argonauts, the boys, fresh off of their live FutureVaganza, invite Manhattan Man AND his college age daughter, 'becca, in to talk politics, the Supreme Court and the environment. Well we mean the BP oil spill, Obama's nominee and Sarah Palin of "hopey-changey" fame. Its a fun romp, especially with a young voice of reason added into the mix.

CSA The Deep End: Episode 005 Part 2 - "The FutureVaganza Continues..."

For the FutureVaganza Maqz, the Fabulous Penguin and the rest of the CSA crew got together for a live show in a hotel in Binghamton, NY. What are they all doing in a hotel in Binghamton? We'll let you figure that one out. As for this show itself, Part 2 of the FutureVaganza, the talk continued well into the night. Fueled by good beer, great spiedies, and good friends and having been "PUNKED" by the roadies, this train went off the tracks somewhere around midnight. The topics varied from modern technology to modern warfare, from ebook readers to mind readers, from optimism to pessimism. Yes we were wandering the desert like a bunch of outcasts looking for the next abandoned building...Yea, I know this doesn't make too much sense but then again neither did we sometimes that night. What is presented here is a bunch of clips from our discussions that night on any number of topics. We have edited separators into the show to let you know this was not one session but rather highlights. And, that is not some artificial laugh track in the background, that is real entertained people who think we were funny at times. We love our fans. We hope you love this show or at least like it enough to grant us a pardon. We promise not to try something like this again (until we end up in a Binghamton hotel one night with beer and spiedies and well, you know the rest!)

Enjoy this clips show, we did!

CSA The Deep End Episode 005 - "Part 1 FutureVaganza: Just Where are We Headed!"

So, the stars and planets were aligned in a once in a lifetime way, and the cast and crew of Countless Screaming Argonauts, the Podcast of Record, found themselves together. In a hotel. In Binghamton. With a live audience. Give those guys that with a few beers and anchovy pizza for fuel (spiedie actually) and you know where they go? On a three part LIVE bender. Topic: The Future. Results: Lots of laughs, beers arguments and the like. Bring up social media, the IPad, relatives sex lives, and this is where the fight started. No really, this is where a fair, even handed exchange of ideas was. No really, this is a CSA podcast – this is where the mass confusion, heavy drinking and yelling started. Yea, that’s more like it.

So if you like Maqz, the fabulous Penguin, College Boy, Denali, Manhattan Man, Joshua, Mark Twain or even unruly Jerry Springer-like live audiences, then this is the place for you. We do it in three parts, each about 30 minutes long. This is part one, after just a few beers and Guinness, and Cream-sicles (vanilla vodka and orange soda).

BTW the opening and closing music bumpers for this episode are from the Billy Joel song “Miami 2017”. This was chosen as a reminder that once again CSA couldn’t get things straight – during one of the many criticisms and arguments this song was referenced several times by wrong titles although we were able to get some of the lyrics correct…

Give The Deep End a Try

Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway)

I've seen the lights go out on Broadway-
I saw the Empire State laid low.
And life went on beyond the Palisades,
They all bought Cadillacs-
And left there long ago.

We held a concert out in Brooklyn-
To watch the Island bridges blow.
They turned our power down,
And drove us underground-
But we went right on with the show...

I've seen the lights go out on Broadway-
I saw the ruins at my feet,
You know we almost didn't notice it-
We'd see it all the time on Forty-Second Street.

They burned the churches up in Harlem-
Like in that Spanish Civil War-
The flames were everywhere,
But no one really cared-
It always burned up there before...

I've seen the lights go down on Broadway-
I watched the mighty skyline fall.
The boats were waiting at the Battery,
The union went on strike-
They never sailed at all.

They sent a carrier out from Norfolk-
And picked the Yankees up for free.
They said that Queens could stay,
They blew the Bronx away-
And sank Manhattan out at sea....

You know those lights were bright on Broadway-
But that was so many years ago...
Before we all lived here in Florida-
Before the Mafia took over Mexico.
There are not many who remember-
They say a handful still survive...
To tell the world about...
The way the lights went out,
And keep the memory alive....

Episode 138 - "This party is over..."

On this episode of CSA, the boys bring Joshua, their favorite immigrant, to discuss the new law in Arizona and his reaction to having to "show your papers." They invoke Godwin's Law right off the bat then take the discussion from there to Utah to California to FAIR to a potential baseball boycott. They also cover racial profiling and even busing them back to Mexico in like a half million buses. They then move onto the New York City bomber, to talk about the fantastic job by the police and John Q. Public. Finally Joshua talks about playing darts, the women he meets and his obvious competition with Manhattan Man that he claims to win every time! When Joshua regales the guys with an old Irish story about drinking in Dublin during holy hour you know this party is over.

CSA The Deep End Episode 004 - "Maqz is an Idiot!"

On this edition of The Deep End Maqz goes into the podcast confessional and admits that he is an idiot. Why you might ask? Because he does the same things we all do. He interrupts others train of thought, he believes everything he reads on the internet is true and he feels he is an expert on a variety of subjects. Mea Culpa, mea culpa! For his penance he has to endure T Fab P and Denali's wrath as they make fun of him. Your penance - you have to listen to 28 minutes of this stuff.

Enjoy the Maqz angst!

Episode 137 - "Voices of Reason..."

On Episode 137, the boys start out with a very special guest, Mark Twain, who has appeared before and appears tonight to comment on a Twain inpersonator who is making news in Hannibal MO. When he is finished the boys invite a frequent guest, Manhattan Man, to comment on several news items including the new CSA Game that is sweeping the nation - "Is it Jesus, Cat Stevens or Evan?" There is a link mentioned in the podcast and it is below so you can play the home version of the game. Just let us know if you think the image is Jesus, Cat Stevens or Evan. Manhattan Man also provides a commentary on the Dallas Braden Baseball Fiasco, Boobquake! and they all calm down listening to the final installment of "A few minutes with Yogi..."

Check us out even just to hear Mark Twain...

CSA The Deep End: Episode 003 "28 minutes on Stupidity in Our Government"

What, only 28 minutes? The boys could have spent hours but instead boiled down to a bunch of gems - from the missing slaves from Civil War History month and the "Great Yankee Aggression" to Palin and pals in Washington, the boys skewer all of them in this quick moving roast.

Give us 28 minutes, we'll give you humor...

Episode 136 - "The episode that almost wasn't or That's what you get for going to the dark side..."

So 8 Beer Sampler attempted to upload this podcast to the interwebtubes about 21 times and kept getting error messages and file already exists errors. 8BS started to backward chain, going back one step in the process each time, getting all the way back to the original edit and resaving the file before it finally worked. Whew! we would have hated to go get the computer from the front lawn if a few more error messages had shown up.

Anyway:

Tonight on this episode of the PodCast, Maqz and the Penguin explore the dark side of things. We begin with a chilling story about an evil clown that does birthday parties, one result of the ash cloud from the Iceland volcano (no, we can’t pronounce it either!), move to a crazy man's yard in Florida, and end with a pranksters plan to infiltrate the teabagger movement. At least they can run a few words of wisdom from Yogi to calm the nerves and help settle the emotions. What are they going to do when the list of Yogisms runs out next episode?

Give #136 a listen please, it took a lot of work to get it here!

Episode 135 - "A Titanic Effort on Reality"

On this episode of the podcast Maqz and the Penguin fantasize about getting the makers of Cranberry Bog wine, a Maqz favorite, to sponsor our podcast. This would expose the product to thousands of listeners! After this moment, the boys move onto more pressing ideas. First up, Maqz clarifies and adds to some of the issues we discussed in our first episode of the DEEP END, on government, the role of government and making changes. After this, they talk about Conan O’Brien’s tweets, and then move onto a famous anniversary. This week is the anniversary date of the sinking of the Titanic and a couple of interesting stories from the Book of Lists website including how the survival rate might have been affected by nationality and passenger list incongruities. Next Maqz brings up an interesting way tribes in New Guinea are trying to reduce tribal wars, a George Orwell moment for sure. Almost continuing on this Big Brother theme, the boys tackle a school zero-tolerance policy. As they wind down, Maqz admits he is into the reality show “Courtney and Chloe Take Miami” which highlights the unreality of these people. The Penguin points out that they sometimes just don’t see their actions as problematic. This morphs into an April Fool’s Joke gone bad discussion that is dumber than dumb. After all this agitation, the boys come back to reality by hearing a few more words from Yogi Berra.

And this, dear listener, is what they have this week!

The Deep End: Episode 002 - "27 minutes on Superstitions and other stuff"

In this episode of THE DEEP END, the boys take a journey that ends in a very different place than it began as most journeys do. At the start, they talk about baseball and its various superstitions, from the ball players mannerisms to the fans response to things like no-hit ballgames. This leads to a discussion about how baseball specifically and sports in general is reported and how Ball Four changed all the rules and many of the opinions. Then there is a line drawn from sports reporting to news reporting in general and all hell breaks loose. So a discussion about Nomar Garciaparra adjusting his batting gloves morphs into a discussion of the sex lives and handicap of POTUS. I guess the Stevie Wonder song “Superstitions” is apropos after all.

Very superstitious, writing's on the wall,
Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past.

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way

Very superstitious, wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong,
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song.

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh.

Very superstitious, nothin' more to say,
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass,
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no

Episode 134 "Stories so weird, Yogi seems downright understandable!"

On tonight's episode the boys take on the most central aspect of all internet stories...Yes, it is News of the Weird! After countless hours of reading and digesting all the internet crumbs, we have culled down the weirdest of the weird, those stories that simply make you shake your head while secretly hoping for more. Want a sample? We got counterfeit money, a Walmart thug, biblical images in a stone, human milk cheeses...well you get the idea. We could go on for ever. But we limit it to 25 minutes so we can get our sanity back with a few minutes with philosopher Yogi Berra. Now you know you're trouble when the Yog is the voice of reason.

Hey give 134 a listen, please!

The Deep End: Episode 001 "30 minutes on the role of government"

THE DEEP END

Today we introduce a new extension of the Countless Screaming Argonauts PodCast brand, something we are calling “The Deep End.” When we changed our format a bit back at episode 100, we committed to doing shorter shows with commentary on a wide variety of wide ranging topics. We have been very happy with the results – a cleaner, quicker paced, funnier show. We continue to do “Chronicles – One topic, two voices, three minutes each” and enjoy the opportunities to flesh out an idea in a short, compact format. However, there seemed to be something missing in these two formats and that is a more in depth discussion about a single topic. Thus “The Deep End” was born. We will do some of these in depth discussions that could be serious or funny or just thought provoking. We will let you know what you are in for in the title and hope that you enjoy the new process. As always emails and comments are always welcome.

So in this episode of “The Deep End” Maqz and the Penguin spend 30 minutes talking about the role of government in our lives – pros and cons.

Episode 133 - "An Irishman, a penguin and Maqz walk into a bar..."

On tonight's episode of CSA, the boys welcome a new friend, Joshua. He's a bar crawling, dart playing, member of Manhattan Man's posse, come over from Ireland, with a few thoughts about life in this part of the country. He is new to this podcast thing so the guys break him in slowly but his quick wit dazzles before too long. He tells us a bit about his living in New York City and offers commentary on our culture (or lack thereof) too. Join us for a little romp this week!

Episode 133 - The joke is on us!

Episode 132 - "It's a big f#*king deal!"

Tonight the boys celebrate the successful passing of the Obama Health Care Bill by doing a podcast. Yea, it’s that big a deal! Thanks VP Biden for the inspiration…

We begin with a couple of updates about a school that is structuring recess and then report on the Russian Mayor’s boast about making snow miss Moscow this winter. Then we spend some time talking about the health care plan passing, the teabaggers protest turning brutal and racist. Then Maqz takes a movie quiz and does real great, talk about the odds of becoming a movie star and finish up with “wipedia fu young.” We end on a baseball high note with Maqz’ rant about God and ball players and a few minutes with Yogi. Spring is in the air…

Episode 132 - We're a Big F#*king Deal too!

Episode 131 - "We continue after some technical difficulties ..."

So it was just one of those nights when the internet and the computers just wouldn't work right and the stars were not aligned and the whole thing went to Hell in a hand basket. No really, the sound quality just kept coming and going and the computers just kept cutting out and...ENOUGH COMPLAINING.! We did a show, its got some funny in it, its got some serious in it, its got some sound problems in it, DEAL WITH IT! We talk about Spring, we talked about the Miami Dolphins charging for shade, NYC restricting the salt intake of its citizens, restaurants not allowing doggie bags, Jesus in a frying pan, and then we start to get really freaky - medicine bags, schools sued for condoms on the floor, cats and dogs sleeping together (no, I just made that up...) Anyway, the show is cool, we're cool and for all our cool listeners, if you listen to the very end when the music fades out, we included some outtakes of unused material. Cool

Episode 131 That is our story for tonight and we're sticking to it...

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Episode 130 - "Tonight we gots lots of stuff..."

Sure, every once in a while a show like this comes around. There are so many things to talk about and so little time to share our thoughts with you, the podcast listener. So we cram as much stuff as we can into 30 minutes and hope for the best. What have we got? We got tall fliers paying more, that what. We got jobs not to bring your kids to, we got computer alarms for checking out websites banned from work, stupid names for real people, alien/science fiction cliques and we got Yogi. At least we got Yogi.

Give Episode 130 a listen, that's all we ask

Episode 129 - "Pat Robinson, Kevin Smith and Yogi Berra, the Trifecta!..."

So tonight, the boys did a bit of an end around with a theme show of sorts, looking at the personal philosophies of these three classic Americans. Well two classics and one idiot. We discuss, you decide who is who. I'll even give you a hint, We both love Yogi and Kevin...One special note is a thank you to Bernie Williams, former NY Yankee for the guitar solo under the Yogisms.

Episode 129 - Which of these three just doesn't belong...

Friday, February 26, 2010

Episode 128 - "Ewwww, your'e a girl..."

Tonight Denali is back as he predicted, and the boys do a quick bit of politics dear dear Sarah and Ron Paul, then jump into a bit of Olympic commentary. There is stuff on Olympic fashion, Olympic oddities, women ski jumpers in the Olympics (NOT) and then a little discussion about baseball, specifically, the philosophical musings of one Lawrence Peter Berra, known to one and all as Yogi. Fun is had by all !

Give 128 a good listen!

Episode 127 - Lac Crucials - just the facts man!

In todays episode the boys are widely dispersed, but nearly unanimous about the Olympic uni's. TFabP is off on yet another vacation to tropical destination and Maqz brings Denali in for a little fashion counterpoint and geography commentary.

They flow, as ever ... but do they ever really get anywhere?

Take a trip with us

Episode 126 - "Can I read your palm?"

This time the boys shift gears a bit and get a little serious. Should Sarah Palin hold Rush Limbaugh to the same standard that she demands of Rahm Emmanuel? Its kind of a new look at "Dumb not so dumb".

No cheating!

SimplySarah

[Editors note - there's a brief delay at the beginning and it fades at the end. This one was not produced by 8 Beer Sampler productions!]

Episode 125 - "Just the facts ma'm, just the facts..."

Today a more serious podcast. Nah, just kidding. Today we just take a CSA skewed look at the world as we see it. The boys look at making biofuel in the desert and the "no lose" approach to fuel independence that is NOT "Drill baby, Drill!" This leads to a discussion of why we as Americans do not favor our best interests. This gets into Obama "bitch slapping" the Republicans in a Q & A and some other political views on the Obama Administration. Finally the boys look at a list of facts that are true but not known by most people. "Science Content" alert for some but there is a barnacle penis fact too!

Enjoy Episode 125 Today!

Episode 124 - "We ask, we answer..."

On tonight’s episode, Maqz and T Fab P answer the following questions. Did a thirst for beer spark civilization? Are you credit worthy? Lenders delve into social networks to decide. Did the Supreme Court tip the balance of power in future elections? Indian tribe sees bright future in no, not a Casino but solar power? Can you handle just a few more jokes from Maqz???

Give us a listen…

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Episode 123 - "Beware the corkscrew!

Tonight Manhattan Man comes into the booth (doesn’t he even knock anymore?) and this winsome trio takes off on a variety of interesting topics. There is the earthquake in Haiti and the relief efforts, the Massachusetts election, Promession ( freeze dried burial), Aciphex, cops tazing 12 year old schoolchildren in a school demonstration, Sex talk in bad fiction, corkscrewy ducks and English Farting Turtles. Then for good measure they touch on some baseball trivia and a couple of baseball book recommendations. Once again, a gem!

123, Count with us now

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Episode 122 - "Hard liquor might not be a good idea..."

We begin with a rarity, a palindrome date, one of only 12 in the 21st century. Speaking about dates, we touch on FOR THE LAST TIME how to pronounce the current year. Next up, falconry in Wales, hawks, and Iguanas in our animal roundup. Then our weekly "where did you see Jesus" and a look at the Darwin Awards for 2009. Finally in the home stretch, we talk about Calvin and Hobbs, and take on the vegetarians who are eating some meat under the guise of how things are raised.

Last call for alcohol and episode 122!

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Episode 121 - The Prediction Show: Part 2 - "What we see happening in 2010..."

In this episode, the boys and Denali continue by predicting what we shall see in 2010. Maqz reveals his vision, if by vision you mean guesses, to gales of laughter by T Fab P and Denali. Then T Fab talks about Blue Canary Cream Ale (again?). to the surprise of no one. Then the pro steps up to the plate as Denali gives us his rendition of "I've got a feelin'...) So that's it, 30 minutes of unmitigated fun and Maqz still does not get the girl (Scarlett) although you might be shocked at what Maqz thinks she will be doing this year!

We predict this in 2010!!!

BTW: If you are interested in when we did this before, check out
"Episode #76 - "Where we predict the future..."
So Maqz, T Fab P and Denali get together for a 2009 gabfest. First Maqz brags about how many predictions he got right from last year. Then Denali makes a few "feelings" known to all of them and we are off and running. Lots of fun, a few surprises and Maqz continues to stalk Scarlett..."

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Episode 120 - The Predictions Show: Part 1 - "A retrospective of this year's look at last year"

Ok, we'll admit that tonight's show is a little short, only 20 minutes but you are getting great bang for your buck as the boys are joined by the Infamous Seer, Denali, as they take a look at predictions from last January about things that were going to happen in 2009. We had a great time and we predict you will too. By the way, Maqz still has not married Scarlett Johansson...

Listen to Part 1 here, a review of last year's predictions...

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Episode 119 - "Could 2009 end any quicker please..."

Well, tonight the boys give good old 2009 the proper send off it deserves. First we talk about December's Blue Moon and what that means. Then we jump into controversy - a list of foods food experts stay away from. The Penguin has eaten 90% of them...We move next into some memorable quotes of 2009 which then moves into the verbal gaffs of the year. Penguin then brings up Maqz's driving record as can be judged by Progressive Insurance at the cost of some of our civil liberties. Finally Maqz brings up a list from "The Onion" another fine news organization - best inventions of all time including God, the inclined plane and easy cheese. Wow, which one of those is the favorite. Hey give us a listen.

Episode 119 - 2009 Ends thank God (or easy cheese!)

CSA Podcast 118 "Lets get this straight..."

The boys take a quick look at how to say the new year 2010, Maqz tells a few more inappropriate jokes and then they invite Denali in to spice things up a bit more. We hear about how well psychics are doing in the midwest, gay vultures and gay penguins (no, NOT T Fab P), and a list of business phrases that we hate. Then we take a look at things that when they are free, are legal, but if you charge money, its illegal - prostitution, sale of human organs, political favors and office gambling. Well that's all there is to this one, enjoy!

Episode 118

Our Podcast is best enjoyed while drinking Montazuma Wines - We recommend the Cranberry Bog!
